Securing Your Child’s Health

There is nothing more important to a good parent than the health of their child. From the day the child is born, the parents begin looking out for its best interest. Child care requires constant attention and continuous study on what the latest health findings are.

Infants

It doesn’t matter if it is your first child or fifth, a newborn baby will take up your entire schedule. The feedings, bathing, diaper changing and all night bouncing when the baby just can’t sleep are all part of the package. If a woman is not breast-feeding the child, then the formula she uses and its nutritional value is important. Look into it and see what the doctors think about it. After a diaper change or a bath, the baby’s skin needs to be taken care of. An infant’s skin is very sensitive and needs baby oil and powder.

Toddlers

Once your child is up and running around, there will be a lot of falls and accidents. This is normal and rarely results in a major injury, however, it’s always a good idea to have a children’s hospital near by. Take your toddler in for regular fitness and nutritional check ups. The doctors can help guide you through your child’s specific dietary needs.

Older Children and Teenagers

Once your child is older, you will need to focus on fitness and good eating habits. Children and teenagers love sugar and processed foods. If you don’t watch them, they can go overboard. In the U.S., 3 out of 4 children are obese or overweight. In the last 30 years, obesity in children has tripled.

Get a check up for your children regularly. If you are short on cash, get a payday advance. It’s really easy and your child’s health is worth it.

Prolonged Bottle Use Makes Obese Kids With Bad Teeth

Researchers are finding that childhood obesity is the cause of many serious side-effect maladies that can change life (for the worse) for a child. They believe there is evidence that shows babies who are allowed to stay on the bottle over a year are at risk of being overweight and having dental health problems later on.

The researchers from Temple University offer the suggestion that the bottle should be taken away from the baby at the age of 12-14 months. Actually, as soon as the child can drink from a cup is a more accurate answer.

It’s Tough to Wean a Toddler, but it’s Healthy for Them

It’s easy to give in to an angry one-year-old who screams for their bottle, and they can scream much longer than we think they can. It would behoove a parent to think of other ways to soothe the child ahead of time, so they aren’t caught off-guard by the amount of crying that weaning ensues.

The Temple Center for Obesity Research and Education conducted a study (one of many) with 6,750 Ohio children who were born in 2001. Their findings were:

  • 1 in 5 kids used the bottle until age two; mainly for drinking and at bedtime.
  • All the children were measured at age 5 ½ and 23% of them were already obese.
  • Of the group of children that were weaned off the bottle much earlier, only a little over 16% began the struggle with obesity.
So there does seem to be some correlation between obesity, poor dental health and prolonged bottle usage.

Tips For Children’s Health

After the birth of a child, the thought that fills a parent’s mind, be it a mother or father, will be what their child needs. At each age, children require different accessories, but what they will need throughout their life is health and nutrition. The most important responsibility of a parent is to provide their kids with healthy and nutritious food. Small children, who cannot understand the difference between good and bad, will require some tricks. Vegetables and fruits can be secretly added to their daily meal in a delicious and attractive manner that they can’t say no to it.

Quantity of food should be controlled so as to avoid unnecessary addition of fats. Too much oil and deep fried items will be attraction to kids, but must be avoided.

3 Fun Ways to Get Your Child Moving

Childhood life isn’t the same now as it was for the previous generation. Gone are the days of disappearing until the street lights came on. Kids of yesteryear would play outside, running, chasing, and riding their bikes, from sun-up to sun-down. There were no video games and mobile phones to keep kids inside, no sitting around playing video games or texting, no iPods or computers. Today, kids are much more sedentary. Childhood obesity is seen more and more in children. Here are three fun ways keep children healthy and active.

Play Together

Not only is it great to get the kids outside and running around, but its great exercise for parents too. When the whether is nice, get outside at least three times a week for a fun game of tag or chase. Get all the neighborhood kids involved and if possible, play across several yards. The more room there is to run, the more they will run, the more energy they will burn. And, parents, the kids will also sleep a lot better, possibly even longer, after spending time outside in the fresh air and releasing energy.

Exercise Together

If you have a workout DVD, ask your child to do it with you. It will be good for both of you to burn calories and is a great time to talk to each other. Watch out as you might end up laughing the whole time, especially if it’s the first time you are doing a particular routine. Try one of the new popular dance DVDs to really have some fun. Most kids love to dance, and they will love dancing their mom or dad even more.

Pack Away the Stroller

After age 3, a lot of kids don’t want to be confined to a stroller. Allowing them to walk is a great way to get them moving and exercising. It might be hard at first, getting the little one to learn not to touch and grab everything, and to stay close to you, but in the long run it’s for the child’s best interest.

Parenting Tip: How to Get Children To Sleep in Their Own Beds

Co-sleeping is a necessary part of growing up for your child. Experts recommend that you allow your child to sleep with you up until the age of five. This is recommended so that you can avoid separation anxiety that child might have. However, after your child turns five it can be hard to get them to sleep in their own bed. Luckily, there are some tips that you can use to get them to sleep in their own bed.

Here are some ways parents have successfully gotten their child to sleep in their own bed.

Grown Up Talk. Many parents try to sugar coat sleeping in their own bed and act like they are still children. Have an age appropriate talk with your child. Talk to them about sleeping in their own bed and how they are big kids. Experts recommend that you avoid trying to portray to your child that you are abandoning them. Instead make it sound like it is a transition phase that they are going through.

Decorations. Your child will want to sleep in their own bed if they like their bedroom. Before you have them sleep in their own beds spend some time decorating their bedroom with them. You can let them put up decorations that they like and place stuffed animals in the room. This will get your child excited about their room and make them want to stay in it.

Create a Routine. Don’t just put your child in their room and force them to go to sleep without you. Try to create a routine that allows you to go into the room and spend some time with the child. You can read a book or listen to music. After a while you can get up and leave. This will allow your child to not feel as if you abandoned them.  Parenting

Comforting Your Child When They are Sick

Children get sick it is a fact of life. However, part of being a parent is knowing how to care and comfort your sick child. As a parent you are responsible for making their aches, pains and illness go away. While you might not always possess the power to make a sick child better you might be able to ease their fears. Here is a look at some of the things parents should do to make sure they are comforting their sick child.

Stay Close By. Sick children are often scared and needy. It is a good idea to make sure that you are nearby and letting your child know that you are there. You don’t need to sit on top of them but you should make sure that you are visible or checking in on your child so that they know where to find you. This will ease their fear and make them feel better.

Serve Treats and Water/Juice. When children are sick they often do not want to eat or drink anything. Make sure that you are serving them plenty of food and water or juice. It is important that they stay hydrated in order to get better. If you notice that they are not drinking water or juice try to encourage them to drink some of it before you leave the room.

Give Your Child Comforting Items. Since sick children are scared and needy they will need items that will give them comfort. These items can range from special blankets or stuff toys to having their favorite TV show or movie playing. These items will allow your sick child to feel comforted.

Cool Humidifiers. If your sick child has a cold it might be a good idea to place a humidifier or vaporizer in the room. This will allow your child to breath better and help comfort some of the symptoms of the cold.
